Kohorst Field
It was in the fall of 2002 when La Salle High School received the news from Monrovia High School that we would no longer be able to use their field for our home football games which meant that the only option available to play our home football games was, literally, at home.
The obstacle of bringing football “home” was the undersized and poorly maintained practice field on the School’s campus that would not support interscholastic football competition. At the encouragement of Shelley Allen and Bob Kohorst ’71, the School assembled a team of volunteers led by Bob and Shelley to investigate the installation of artificial turf and a tartan-surface track. Bob and Shelley spent countless hours researching the options for artificial turf, and once a vendor was selected, Bob and Shelley proceeded to lead the fundraising effort to install the $1.1 million facility. Their energy, drive, dedication, and commitment ensured that both the field and the funding would be in place so that the JV Football team played their home game in front of a standing-room-only crowd of fans on September 12, 2003. In recognition of their amazing Lancer loyalty and to thank them for the critical role they played in bringing football home, in November 2009, La Salle honored Bob and Shelley by naming the football field “KOHORST FIELD”.
