Steve Johnson '63
Steve Johnson '63 became a volunteer for the National Park Service later in life thanks to Brother Emery’s lectures about the Civil War, leading programs on Alcatraz about its Civil War history. Steve joined the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, whose mission is to honor the service of our ancestors by visiting schools and telling their stories, giving awards to Eagle Scouts for their service, and giving tours at the National Cemetery in San Francisco to tell the story of the soldiers (and a female spy) buried there who served the Union cause. Steve (center) explains California’s role in the Civil War to visitors at the Golden Gate National Cemetery.
