Coffee with the Counselors

Our first semester Coffee with the Counselors is Thursday, October 24, starting at 8:00 am. We invite all parents to join us! Please see below for the schedule.

Parking: Parking is available at the west end of the senior parking lot located on Sierra Madre Blvd.

Timeline:

  • 8:00 am: Coffee and refreshments available in the atrium
  • 8:15 am: Welcome and "What is happening in counseling this quarter?"
  • 8:30 am to 9:15 am: Breakout session of your choosing


Session 1: Overview of the Center for Cultural Perspectives Program

  • Open to 9-12th grade parents
  • Aitrum
  • Ms. Sunny will discuss information about the Center for Cultural Perspectives, highlighting its mission and its impactful programs while sharing insights on the importance of intercultural and global competence skills in today's learning and skill development. Ms. Cheryl Allen and Ms. Amber Chen, both parents of La Salle students, will offer personal reflections on their own experiences with the Center’s programs, discussing how they have enriched their families’ understanding of diverse perspectives. The session will also cover the travel opportunities available through the center. The session will conclude with an interactive Q&A, allowing attendees to engage directly with the speakers.


Session 2: Academic Support Nuts & Bolts for Parents

  • Open to 9-12th grade parents
  • Amphitheater
  • Ms. Holyfield will discuss student-best practices for effectively utilizing Academic Support resources, including the FlexiSCHED scheduling system. Ms. Holyfield will discuss how academic support serves as a powerful tool for students to develop crucial skills such as initiative, time management, problem-solving, self-care, and self-advocacy. By effectively leveraging these opportunities, students can form habits that enhance their current academic journey and set them up for success as adaptable, lifelong learners

Session 3: College Matriculation Data

  • Open to 11th-12th grade parents
  • Dining Hall
  • Mr. Hou will discuss how analyzing historical admission trends can provide valuable insights into predicting future admission patterns and post-admission outcomes. By examining data from past years, he will illustrate how this knowledge can guide families in navigating the college application process more effectively. This approach not only helps identify potential acceptance trends but also opens up new college options that families may not have previously considered, broadening their understanding of higher education opportunities. This information will empower students and their families to make more informed decisions about their academic futures.
