Message from Principal Jamal Adams

Dear La Salle Families and Community,

I hope this message finds you well as we wrap up the third quarter of our school year. Today, I write to you to inform you that I have been selected as the next principal of Loyola High School of Los Angeles, my high school alma mater. As someone who cares deeply about our Lasallian community, I wanted you to hear the news directly from me.

I sincerely hope that you know that I have enjoyed my tenure at La Salle tremendously. This community has welcomed me with open arms and has treated me as a valued and respected member. From our current families, faculty, and staff, to parents, alumni, and benefactors - you have all been so receptive to me as a person, colleague, and, most importantly, a school leader. I have worked diligently, demonstrating in my words and actions strategies to advance La Salle College Preparatory while staying attuned to the needs of each of you as outstanding, brilliant, and unique individuals who make up our community.

I am blessed and honored to lead in my position as principal. Please know that my decision to apply for the position at Loyola was difficult for me. I approached this discernment seriously and leaned on my faith, my family, and my practices of goal-setting and journaling to help me weigh my options. Ultimately, I felt called to apply as an opportunity to return to a place integral to my formation of faith, purpose, and vocation. As many of you know, I have had the privilege to experience Loyola High School as a student, faculty member, coach, administrator, and parent. Many of the lessons I learned in these roles and at various stages of my life anchor who I am and have shaped the lens through which I experience the world. Although my tenure at La Salle was fairly brief, working with the La Salle community and within the Lasallian charism has allowed me to grow exponentially in understanding what is necessary to lead as a strategic thinker, problem solver, and community builder. The Lancer spirit will always live in me and will certainly inform my path going forward.

I am truly humbled and honored to have served as Principal at La Salle College Preparatory, and I am grateful for the blessings that have been bestowed upon me and my family while here at La Salle. Please know that I will continue to be the dedicated leader you have come to know through the remainder of the school year and will support this leadership transition in every way I am able to.

Sincerely,

Jamal K. Adams, M.Ed.
Principal

Message from School President Perry Martin

Dear La Salle Community,

Change at any organization is inevitable, with strong leaders and colleagues seeking different opportunities that fulfill their professional passions and personal obligations. With a grateful heart, I share my sincere thanks and appreciation to Principal Jamal Adams, as he has shared with me his selection as Loyola High School’s next Principal for the 2023-2024 school year.

Mr. Adams’ selection as principal and his return to Loyola is both bittersweet and joyous, as his alma mater has played a tremendous role in his development as a student, school leader, and parent. As a La Salle community, we are very grateful for Mr. Adams’ service, excellent leadership, and dedication to La Salle.

Mr. Adams will continue serving as principal until the end of the school year, allowing us the opportunity to search for a new leader to serve as principal, while also celebrating Mr. Adams’ contributions to our school community. From assisting in the navigation through the COVID-19 pandemic and advancing our five-year strategic plan, to helping to support our championship and award-winning athletic, academic, and arts programs and teams and enhancing our faculty professional development, we are so blessed to have had Mr. Adams as a member of our community and school leadership team. From a grateful Board of Trustees and especially myself, we want to thank Mr. Adams for his leadership and wish him the very best in his new role.

As we move forward, the search for our next school principal will begin immediately. I have notified Mathew Heersche of Educational Directions, the firm that oversaw La Salle's recent principal search, to develop the positional criteria to attract a strong pool of academic visionaries and set the stage for a committee of professionals to interview candidates. With recent experience working with La Salle, Educational Directions is very familiar with our school and its culture, ensuring a strong partner to help guide our school's principal search.

As we progress through the search process, I will keep you informed on its progress. I am confident that La Salle College Preparatory's mission, academic attributes, professional employees, and co-curricular opportunities will appeal to and attract a diverse and robust candidate pool. I am firm in my belief that there are highly qualified and eager candidates who will help to build on Mr. Adams' successes and achievements.

I continue to pray for your good health and the continued success of La Salle College Preparatory and our special community. Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.

Sincerely,

Perry K. Martin, M.Ed.
School President
