Dear La Salle Community,

With a very heavy heart, I am writing to you today to inform you of the recent passing of La Salle College Preparatory technology and engineering teacher, Mr. Roy Chang. Mr. Chang was a long-time member of our faculty here at La Salle, serving our school for the last 16 years. During his tenure, Mr. Chang served in our science department, technology, and engineering department, as coach of our robotics team and was always very gracious to help our students and faculty with their technology needs.

I have been in close contact with one of Roy’s closest friends, who is speaking on behalf of his family during this difficult time. While we do not have many details of his passing, I would like to ask our entire community to please pray for Mr. Chang, most especially his family and loved ones. We understand how profound this loss is for our community - our students, faculty, staff, and extended La Salle family - and I share in your immense grief.

The emotional and spiritual well-being of our students and community is of the utmost importance. Please know that our counselors are available for students to speak with during this difficult time. We also have resources available for our faculty and staff, many of whom have worked with Mr. Chang for many years.

St. John Baptist de La Salle once said, “To touch the hearts of your students is the greatest miracle you can perform.” Mr. Chang touched the hearts of countless students and the hearts of all those he encountered. We will cherish and honor his legacy and the miracles of learning and inspiration he performed during his time with us. Please know that you, your families, and our entire school community continue to be in my prayers, especially during this time of grief and challenge. Thank you for your continued partnership in the education of your children, as we prepare for the start of the new school year.
