Preparing for the 2024-2025 School Year

Message from the Principal's Office - July 12, 2024

Dear Parents and Students,

Hello! I hope all of you are enjoying these summer months and are having opportunities for relaxation and rejuvenation.

The first day of school is just a few weeks away. In preparation for another great year at La Salle, we are sending you this letter with information about the upcoming year.

  1. First Day of School: The first day of school is Monday, August 19th. The activities on the first day will include a prayer service, rally, and Mentor group meetings. Freshmen will report to school at 8:00 AM in the David Lam Amphitheater. 10th and 11th grade students will report to school in their mentor class at 8:45 AM, and 12th grade students will report to their mentor class at 9:00 AM. All students will be dismissed at approximately 12:30 PM. Please click here for a complete breakdown of the schedule for the first day of school.

A portion of the day will include taking yearbook/ID photos. As such, it is a Dress Uniform Day for all students. (See Dress Code and Appearance Guidelines). Please note that beyond proper uniform, students should also follow rules for appearance as outlined in the handbook. Students who are not in compliance will need to retake their picture at a later date.

  2. Save the Dates: Freshmen Lock-In, New Parent Orientation, Freshmen & Transfer Students Orientation

On Thursday, August 15th, we will be hosting our Freshman Lock-In (Class of 2028 only) from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM in the Duffy Lewis Gymnasium and New Parent Orientation (Parents of Freshmen and Transfers) from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Dining Hall. More information regarding these events will be shared in a separate email during the first week of August.

Additionally, New Student Orientation for all freshmen and transfer students will take place on Friday, August 16th. Details regarding this day will be shared in the first week of August.

  3. 2024-2025 Enrollment Finalization: The final piece of information that needs completing for enrollment is the 2024-2025 Emergency Information Update. This form must be completed online and can be found in PowerSchool (in the Forms section). This digital process assists us in verifying our current records and obtaining information for students new and returning to La Salle. If you have more than one student enrolled at La Salle, you will need to complete the process separately for each one. Please click here for instructions on completing this form. If you have any questions, please contact Vice Principal Edward Magluyan at emagluyan@lasallehs.org.

The entire online process must be completed by Monday, August 16. Students whose families have not completed the process by then will not be able to participate in school activities or attend classes beginning on August 19th.

  4. Class Schedules: The master schedule for the 2024-2025 school year is complete, and your student’s class schedule can be viewed on PowerSchool. The schedule will include information such as classroom locations, periods, and teachers. However, these final details are still subject to change. We do our best to accommodate all requests. However, due to scheduling conflicts, we had to schedule alternate requests for several students. If you have questions about your schedule, please contact your school counselor, which is indicated on the course schedule. Please remember that schedule changes will not be made based on teacher, period, and/or A/B day preferences. The final add/drop deadline for the course schedule is Wednesday, August 29th, at 3:00 PM. No exceptions will be made.

  5. PowerSchool and Schoology Login: An email was sent to all new families regarding student and parent/guardian access and login information to PowerSchool and Schoology. Please click here for a generic copy of that email. Please note that each family was assigned a unique access code and ID. For questions, email emagluyan@lasallehs.org.

  6. Bell Schedule: As you will see on the calendar, we will occasionally have late start days and early dismissals on Fridays. These days will be used for faculty and staff meetings and ongoing professional development. For more information about the bell schedule, please visit lasallehs.org/bellschedule.

  7. Important Dates and Calendar: A calendar overview of important dates for the 2024-2025 school year is available online or can be downloaded for your records by clicking here. Please note that the master calendar with the most current information is accessible on our website under the News & Events section or by clicking here. An important event we would like you to make note of is our Back to School Night on August 29th, at 7:00 PM. Prior to Back to School Night, our Senior Parents will gather at 6:00 PM for Senior College Night.

  8. Athletic Participation: All students interested in trying out for a team or participating in any sport must be cleared in order to do so. To obtain clearance, please visit lasallehs.org/athleticclearance and follow the instructions to access HomeCampus.com. You must upload a clear copy of a current physical and provide your insurance information. If these criteria are not met, your student-athlete will not be cleared. Please email athletics@lasallehs.org for any questions.

  9. Visual and Performing Arts Announcements and Updates:

Lancer Drama is recruiting new members! Lancer Drama, La Salle’s resident theatre company, will hit the ground running this August, rehearsing for our fall musical, Oklahoma!, opening this November. While new students are not eligible to audition for principal roles, they are encouraged to get involved as an ensemble company member or as a member of our production team and crew. And! Mark your calendar- there will be a Fall Lancer Drama Social on the first day of school after dismissal for returning Lancer Drama students and interested new members. For more information on joining Lancer Drama, please email Theater Director Brian Drummy at bdrummy@lasallehs.org.

Students entering any of the applied music programs i.e. Band, Strings, Jazz, or Choir, are asked to send in a 90-second video of themselves playing a tune of their choice, either playing their instrument or singing to gziomek@lasallehs.org so that Mr. Ziomek has an idea of what instruments (or voices) we will have in the ensembles and what is their existing ability.

Lastly, the first Arts Booster meeting will be on September 5th at 6:00 PM in the band room. All Arts parents are welcome.

  10. Academic Lockers located in the school building will only be assigned to students who request them. To request a locker, students will need to fill out the locker request form through Powerschool (click here for instructions). Note that this is a separate process from receiving an athletic locker, which will be assigned by PE teachers.

  11. Driving to School: Students who will be driving to school will need to obtain a parking permit tag. Seniors will park in the campus senior parking lot located on Sierra Madre Boulevard. Non-seniors are required to park at the Sierra Madre United Methodist Church parking lot off of Michillinda above La Salle. To obtain a parking pass, students must fill out the parking form through Powerschool (click here for instructions) and then see Ms. Kathy at the front desk to receive their parking permit tag.

  12. Student-Parent Handbook is in the process of being finalized and will be available for viewing in early August via our website. Parents will be notified once it is available.

  13. Textbooks: The complete book/resource list is available on our website (with suggested hyperlinks to purchase) in the Students tab under “Textbook List” or by clicking here. It is highly recommended that you order your textbooks ASAP since delivery time varies based on vendors and availability.

On the booklist, you will see links to purchase from iBooks, Amazon Kindle, and Intel Education Study. You are welcome to purchase from your preferred vendor. While digital copies are acceptable and allowed, we encourage the use of hard copies to promote a more engaging experience with the teacher and class. Digital textbooks are compatible with both Apple iPads and MacBook laptops. PLEASE NOTE: All of the novels for English courses must be a physical copy.

Please be cautious no matter where you choose to buy your textbooks, and be sure to check ISBN numbers and be aware of return policies.

  14. Summer reading assignments will be due within the first few days of the school year. Information regarding summer reading can be found under the “Students” tab on our website or by clicking here.

  15. School Uniforms: All uniforms (See Dress Code and Appearance Guidelines) can be purchased on campus through the Lancer Armory. Please visit lasallehs.org/lancerarmory to view the online catalog and place an order. Please email the Lancer Armory at lancerarmory@lasallehs.org with questions regarding uniform inventory and the Dean’s Office at mkhoshkbariie@lasallehs.org with questions regarding dress code policy.

In partnership with our Parent Association, we will also be hosting a Used Uniform Sale of lightly used uniform pieces on Saturday, July 13th, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the Amphitheater and Atrium! The Lancer Armory will also be open during the sale. Parking will be available in the Lower Parking Lot of Michillinda Ave.

  16. Dining Service: Bevaris will continue to be our food service provider. Bevaris provides cafeteria services at over 40 schools in Southern California. Further instructions regarding payment processes will be sent in the upcoming weeks prior to the start of the school year. Please email Tara Morales at tmorales@lasallehs.org if you have any questions.

  17. Parent Volunteer Hours will continue to be managed on Track It Forward. Track It Forward is an online resource where parents/guardians can sign up for events, log hours, and monitor their volunteer requirements. Please click here for instructions on how to register with Track It Forward. This year, the requirement will be 20 hours for two-parent households and 10 hours for single-parent households.

  18. Weekly Parent Bulletin: Each Friday, you will receive our Weekly Parent Bulletin via email. The bulletin will include important information for the week ahead, updates on upcoming events, and a recap of all the exciting moments that happened on our campus that week. Be sure to keep an eye out for it!

  19. Parent Guide to Getting Involved: In addition to all the items mentioned above, the Parent Guide to Getting Involved is a great resource for general information, how to keep informed with the latest news at La Salle, how to get involved as a parent, and more! We invite you to peruse this document prior to the first day of school to familiarize yourself with our Lasallian community.

In closing, I look forward to seeing you all in just a few short weeks and am excited to have us all back on campus for another spectacular school year. Until then, enjoy the rest of your summer, and I hope you find the time to relax and spend time with your family.

Sincerely,

Ernest Siy, M.Ed.

Principal
