Two La Salle CARLOW Center Students Take Away Prized Awards at the Los Angeles County Science & Engineering Fair!
Five La Salle students participated in the 73rd Los Angeles County Science & Engineering Fair. These students worked diligently on coming up with an experiment and executing it to completion. Projects included looking at new technology that allows researchers to use autofluorescence to detect cancer tissues; observing the effects of different heart medications and electrolytes on cardiomyocyte differentiation from human induced pluripotent stem cells; and performing complex meta-analysis to determine if there is a significant correlation between pesticide exposure and Dementia. The students presented their projects at the Shrine Expo Center in March.
Student Participants: Mohuli (Pammi) Ganguly (Grade 11), Brandon Kao (Grade 11), Neo Teigen (Grade 11), Ryan Chu (Grade 11), and Mason Hong (Grade 9).
Results:
Mason Hong won 2nd Place in the Microbiology Senior Division.
Mohuli (Pammi) Ganguly won the National Certificate of Achievement from the Society for In Vitro Biology (SIVB).
SIVB is a professional society devoted to fostering the exchange of knowledge of in vitro biology of cells, tissues, and organs from both plants and animals (including humans). The focus is on biological research, development, and applications of significance to science and society. SIVB’s mission is accomplished through the Society’s two world-class journals and newsletter; national and local conferences, meetings, and workshops; and through the support of teaching initiatives in cooperation with educational institutions.
We would also like to take this time to congratulate Anthony Fernandes, our Science Department Instructor who teaches: Honors Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Genetics, and Biotechnology for being presented the 2022 Lasallian Educator Award and being the 2022-2023 AMGEN Biotech Experience Master Teacher Fellowship Recipient.
